Activity Tracking:

  • When it comes to tracking, both Flex and Flex 2 track the same activities: steps, active minutes, distance, calories, sleep quality.
  • However, Flex 2 is the first swim-proof band from Fitbit that allows you to track swimming activities.
  • Also, Flex 2 has SmartTrack technology that automatically recognizes some workouts and records them in your Fitbit app.

Design:

  • Flex 2 is noticeably slimmer than the Flex. It also has a different clasp design that works better than the first one.
  • Flex 2 is available in 4 colors: Black, Lavender, Magenta and Navy.
  • Additional accessories for Flex 2 allow you to change how you wear your tracker: either in a necklace (pendant) or a bangle available in Gold, Rose Gold or Silver.

Notifications:

  • The original Flex band didn’t receive any notifications from your phone.
  • Now, the Flex 2 is able to receive call or text notifications. While you can’t view the text or caller ID, the notifications are Color-coded so each color will indicate whether it’s a call or text notification.

Battery Life:

  • You should expect the same battery life from both Flex 2 and Flex, up to 5 days.

  • Fitbit Alta is not very different from Flex 2. Both bands have the same tracking features: steps, distance, calories, sleep quality and SmartTrack technology.
  • Flex 2 and Alta both are able to receive text and call notifications, but additionally, Alta will receive Calendar notifications, too.
  • And because Alta has a display, it can display the caller’s name and some part of the text message you receive. Also, it displays current time.
  • So, to sum up, the biggest difference here is that the Alta has a display screen that actually shows you the details of your goals, text/caller ID and calendar alerts as well as current time.
  • Like Flex 2, many interchangeable accessories are available for Fitbit Alta.

At their core, both the Philips Health Watch and Fitbit Blaze offer the same activity tracking that helps you improve your daily lifestyle choices. You’ll get information on your steps, calories burned, workouts, sleeping and more. However, for less the price, the Fitbit Blaze offers more features that gives it a better value than the Philips Health Watch.

The Fitbit Blaze has these following features that the Philips Health Watch DOES NOT have:

  • It shows you notifications from your phone like calls, text messages, emails, calendars.
  • It allows you to control music on your phone.
  • It is compatible with 200 fitness apps already available for iOS and Android, as well as the Fitbit app.
  • It has built-in GPS to save your running or walking routes on a map.
  • It is customizable with swappable watch faces and bands and frames that can be purchased separately.

Which One Is Best to Buy?

We believe that the Fitbit Blaze offers a lot for the money, especially in comparison to the Philips Health Watch. Whether you’re a beginner or an athlete, trying to lose weight or simply want to maintain a healthier lifestyle, you’ll be getting a much better experience using the Fitbit Blaze.

However, it is worth mentioning that the Philips Health Watch is a part of complete health solution that includes a smart connected scale and a smart connected blood pressure monitor, which all connect to the same Philips Health Suite app to give you a full insight on your overall health.

Yet, we still believe that the Fitbit Blaze has the best value for its price and for us, it’s the clear winner.

There are many people who aren’t excited about the fact that in order to track their activity they have to wear a band on their wrist all day long, especially that some bands aren’t exactly attractive in design, or they clash with your personal style.

If you’re one of these people, you’ll be happy to know that not all activity trackers have to be worn on the wrist. There are a number of trackers that can be worn in a discreet way and you won’t even feel them.

UP Move by Jawbone:

  • Using the Up Move app, you’ll be able to log your food, so you can calculate how many calories you’ve consumed vs, how many you’ve burned.
  • However, in order to track your sleeping quality, you have to wear Up Move on your wrist.
  • The small unit doesn’t have a screen on it, so you can’t get immediate feedback on your progress. In order to see your progress, you’ll have to launch the app on your smartphone or tablet, which connects to the tracker via Bluetooth.

  • The Fitbit Alta is a completely redesigned activity tracker, it is slimmer than the Fitbit Charge and more elegant.
  • The Fibit Alta offers more customization either by customizing the layout of the clock (horizontal or vertical), or the clock face.
  • Another customization feature is the swappable bands of Alta. Choose from the Classic silicone bands in different colors, leather bands, or metal bands, all available Officially from Fitbit.
  • On the activity tracking side: The Alta gives you SmartTrack, which automatically recognizes what exercises you’re doing without you pushing any button. Fitbit Charge requires you to select the activity when you start your exercise.
  • Also, the Alta has Move Reminders, which the Charge doesn’t have. This feature reminds you to get up and start moving if you’ve been inactive for too long.
  • The one feature that the Charge has and Alta doesn’t is Stairs climb counter. When going up the stairs, the Charge is able to automatically detect it and counts how many stairs you’ve climbed (we’re not sure how accurate it is though). The Alta doesn’t have this feature.

Fitbit Alta Swap Bands

How’s Fitbit Alta different than Fitbit Flex?

Fitbit Flex

  • Alta is actually a huge upgrade from the Flex model. Both may have a slim design, but the Flex lacks the OLED display that gives you a clock, instant stats and notifications. The Flex only shows you how far a long are you from reaching your goal in the form of LED dots.
  • The Flex also has bands that can be swapped, but the only bands available for the Flex are the Classic silicone bands.
  • When it comes to tracking, Flex tracks steps, calories, distance as well as sleeping. But it doesn’t have automatic activity recognition or move reminders.
  • The Flex is as basic as an activity tracker can be. It tracks everything, but in order to see the details of your progress, you’ll have to be connected to your phone. It doesn’t have a clock, so you’ll also need to pair it with a watch or check time on you phone.

Which One Should You Buy?

Fitbit Alta

Overall, the Fitbit Alta gives you the same tracking features that the Charge does, but it does them better. And of course, since you’ll be wearing your activity tracker all day, how it looks is an important factor. The Fitbit Alta has a much more attractive design than the Fitbit Charge. And the fact that it supports interchangeable bands, it makes it more attractive, whether you choose a classy leather band or a sleek metal one.

Alta, like the Charge, doesn’t have a Heart rate monitor, so it’s not aimed for the avid athlete. Instead, it’s a great choice for day-to-day activity tracking and promoting an overall better and active lifestyle.

Tracked Activities:

  • Withings Pop can track your steps, distance traveled, running, calories burned as well as sleep monitoring.
  • Fitbit Charge tracks steps, distance, running, calories, climbed stairs and sleep monitoring.

Design:

This is the biggest difference between the two trackers:

  • The Withings Pop has a classic analog watch design
  • While the Fitbit Charge has a wristband design.

Viewing Data and How They Work:

Both trackers work the same way, they track everything fully automatically so no need to activate anything, just wear them and go. The difference is in how you can view your current data:

Withings Pop in Use

The Withings Pop doesn’t have a digital display. What is has is a dial that shows you how far along you are from achieving your daily goal. This is a goal you set for yourself on the app, usually it’s determined by how many steps you want to take in a day. If you’d like to see details of your activity, like how many steps you’ve taken so far or how many calories you’ve burned, you’ll have to reach to your phone to view them. The data syncs in real time, unless you’ve been out of range then it should take less than a minute to sync.

Fitbit Charge Display

On the other hand, because the Fitbit Charge has an OLED display, it allows you to see your stats instantly with a push of a button, no need for your phone. However, using the app you’ll see your stats in beautiful graphics and detailed information.

Battery Life:

  • The Withings Pop uses cell battery that needs to be replaced onces every 8 months.
  • Fitbit Charge uses rechargeable battery that lasts for up to 7 days and takes only about an hour to charge.

Available Accessories:

Withings Activite Pop Wristband Accessory Pack

Withings offers a set of 3 bands in the colors Orange, Maroon and Teal. The tracker itself is available in dark grey, blue and beige, so whichever of these colors you choose, you’ll be able to mix and match the faces with the colored silicone bands. Click here for more info on this pack.

As for the Fitbit Charge, there is no way to customize it just yet. But it is available in 3 colors: black, blue and plum.

Which One Should You Buy?

The biggest difference in these trackers, and it’s probably the difference that will affect your purchase decision, is what design do you prefer?

  • If you prefer to wear a classic looking watch, but in return get minimal info on your current stats (that’s until you’ve syncs with your phone or tablet), then you’ll love the Withings Pop. It’s a beautiful design with discreet powers, making it more suitable to wear to most occasions.
  • The Fitbit Charge has your standard wristband activity tracker design. It gives you instant stat counts, caller ID and a clock. And the only additional info it offers is number of stairs climbed. But the biggest advance the Fitbit Charge can give you is the fact that it is compatible with over 150 apps, which gives you the freedom to choose the fitness app you want to use your Fitbit Charge with.

UP4 and UP3 have the exact same features when it comes to tracking. Both track:

  • Steps, calories, distance.
  • Sleep quality.
  • Hear rate.

There’s only ONE added feature to the UP 4, which is the ability to connect your American Express card to your wristband and make payments with it.

Is Wireless Payment Worth The Upgrade to UP 4?

Jawbone UP4

With Up 4, Wireless payment works by tapping your brand on a wireless payment terminal and it will automatically make the payment for you. This sounds pretty cool, but here’s the fine print:

  • The only card you can use this feature with is American Express.
  • The service is only available in few select stores.
  • It works in the US only.

At this point, we don’t think this is a feature worth upgrade for really. Maybe if in the near future it was upgraded to include more cards and is widely available in stores, it’d be cool to use. But right now, we simply don’t think it’s worth it.

Which UP  Band To Go For?

Definitely go for UP 3 instead of UP 4. You’ll get all the features mentioned above and save some cash at the same time. And if hear rate monitoring isn’t something you want, UP 2 will be a great choice for you.

  • LED light indicator shows you how far along you are from your goal.
  • Syncs data via Bluetooth.
  • Uses coin battery that lasts up to 6 months.

Which One To Buy?

Here are your deciding factors that you need to consider:

What activities do you want to track?

  • So far, all trackers mentioned above can track all basic activities like walking, steps, calories burned and sleeping. Only Misfit Shine has the ability to track swimming and cycling.

Do you need instant feedback on your activities?

  • Do you need to see exactly how many steps you’ve taken or calories you’ve burned on the spot? Then Fitbit One is the right tracker for you as it’s the only one (from the trackers featured above) that has a display that give you instant updates on your activities. The others have LED lights that only indicate your goal status.

Battery life and charging:

  • Fitbit trackers, One and Flex, both use rechargeable batteries. Their battery life is about 5 to 7 days, and it only takes an hour to fully charge.
  • Misfit Shine and Jawbone MOVE don’t need to be rechargeable. They use replaceable batteries that should last up to 6 months.

How do you prefer to wear your tracker?

If you’d like the option of clip-on and wearing it on your wrist, then Fitbit One, Flex or Shine are to consider. The Jawbone Move can be only worn as a clip.
